I find the concept 'what P actually wrote' in the context of a book
discussion troublesome. Determining 'what Pynchon actually wrote' is a bit
more complex than a rote recitation of words on a page. Having been reared
in a hyperfundamentalist Christian subculture, such a conceptualization
smells funny to me.
