Because we have no access to 'the text.' We only have access to an
interaction between 'the text' and our consciousness (oversimplified, but
good enough for now). Each person's starting point is their own
consciousness of the text, not 'the text.' So, when anyone starts equating
their reading with 'the text,' this is an impossibility. Look at Dave
Monroe's post. He says he is staying with 'the text,' but then using his own
definition of that term, he violates 'the text' (as defined by him). His
argument is not internally consistent, something I'll still squawk about
even if I am in the wrong place at the wrong time.
