Again, I simply largely have not been reading our
bestest buddies Robt 'n' Doug here for fear of getting
the urge to get involved at all. Once I started
posting my own comments, others rather less involved
in the usual nastiness filled me in on a few relevant
items, is all ...

I mention that precisely in the interest of simply Not
Getting Involved here, though this is, of course, an
utter impossibility ...

Point being, I don't give a damn as to who was making
what argument (though of course one can guess ...) but
I DID have a little something to say. Is all.
Further, I don't give a damn for the time being which
way(s) that Whip episode is read. Me, I've no vested
interest in any of this, so ...

But was interesting to read arguments mounted against
my comments. Arguments I'd have made myself had I
chosen to take up (if not quite take ...) any
different positions. Arguments I have made in similar
situations. Interesting as well what arguments
WEREN'T made, but ...

But, again, from what I've been catching up on, some
interesting points all around. Me, if I had to make a
Statement, I'd say, the Driver gets hit, the Tooth
gets broken, the Driver even gets whipped, BUT ... but
what's capital-I Interesting is how the narrative sort
of dances reticently around all that. Is All ...

Past Dixon's epiphany about slavery, however, the rest
is largely anticlimactic to me, though,as I recall,
some of the most interesting bits in the book are yet
to come nonetheless. Will see if a rereading changes
my opinion from here on out ...
