A little off-subject--hit delete now if you don't want to talk about growing
up in an ironic culture.

Talking with my 15-yearold tonight, I realized how completely skeptical she
and all her friends are of ANY large authority--school, government, church
(especially Catholic), corporations-- They have grown to thinking age in a
time where they've seen statesmen defining sex, corporations defining theft,
and religion defining corruption. They can hardly think in non-ironic terms
even thought they're still babies! What do you think is the literature for
them? I suggested 1984 and she asked why I thought it would interest her.
I said "because you question the values of your world and this author was
doing that long before you were born". She said "Cool. I'll tell my
friends."
