I think the insinuation here was that the movie's production, release and/or
popularity now deliberately coincide with international anti-terrorism, the
mooted US-led war on Iraq etc. As a sort of subliminal propaganda ...? I'm
not sure I agree. The three movies were all filmed simultaneously, and
planning and pre-production, if not the actual filming also, were all in
place long before Sept 11 2001.
The early fantasy tales which Tolkien developed into _The Lord of the Rings_
were written while he was serving in the trenches in WWI, not WWII. _The
Hobbit_ was first published in 1937.
