I know why everyone associates the comments (assuming they are the
comments of Pynchon and that the translation we have is first-rate) with
Doug. Not because Doug brought the interview to the list and provided a
translation, but because the comments are really not very interesting or
profound and would and probably should be considered worthless on this
"Pynchon list" but for the fact that Doug, as is his habit, has made the
those comments his own. The Pynchon list is and has been mostly about
Doug for some time now. A metamorphosis took place here sometime during
GRGR and Doug became more important, more central, more the topic of
discussion, subject of debate than Pynchon or anything else. After 9-11,
the Pynchon list should have been renamed the Doug list. Doug is at
least 50% responsible for this very strange metamorphosis. But it takes
at least two to Tango and there is always a crowd waiting to cut in and
get twisted and turned, flamed and burned by Doug's fancy foot steps. Of
course if we all ignore Doug (Doug can and does post to this list 16
hours a day) he will bait and flame us until he gets us all dancing to
his tune.
Yesterday Doug attacked Jbor with the war mongering BS. I guess it's
better than the Holocaust BS, but the results are almost the same--the
list discussion is diverted away from Pynchon's books and Pynchon
subjects to Doug and Doug's comments and favorite subjects.
Why would Doug attack Jbor at this stage in the game? Well, Doug has
been attacking Jbor for a very long time, but could it be that Jbor is
posting Pynchon subject matter?
After the nasty attack on Jbor (why Jbor continues to post MDMD is a
mystery to me, I wouldn't waste my time), Doug smears the list with his
BS to draw attention away from Pynchon and on to himself. By framing the
discussion as Doug does in the paragraph below, he turns the Pynchon
list into the Doug list. Note how Doug **equals** Pynchon in the
statement and how the few (meaning all of us who don't agree that Doug
**equals** Pynchon) are cast as persecutors of Doug, who of course has
been anointed with the holy spirit of TRP.

supporter of Bush's war on Afghanistan that you'd like him to be and
you'd
like to tar him with the same anti-American brush that you've used on
anybody who has dared to dissent from the herd mentality on this
slaughter,
but, with the exception of a couple of hard-headed reprobates you've
refrained from an all-out assault on Pynchon for expressing these
opinions
(again, assuming it is Pynchon -- the real proof will come if he takes
legal action against Playboy Japan, and I don't think anybody's heard a
whisper about that yet), so you dump on your favorite targets instead."
PS Jbor suggested that we might consider an off-list MDMD.
I've just finished the novel again and I've read a few other related
books, but I have no interest in an MDMD on the "pynchon list." If you
all ever form another Pynchon list, let me know.

PS Dave Monroe, you are a very good researcher but a very poor lawyer.
Your client is guilty and you have done nothing to improve the list by
defending him.
