Having never been to N'awleans, I assume it captures the setting perfectly
just as _The Man with the Golden Arm_ captures Shecawgu.

What I like about _Confederacy_ is the collection of quirky, almost
Dickensian characters. That's why I originally brought it up re: this
thread. And Morris, I can only imagine what your fellow citygoers think of
Ignatius J. Reilly!  I'm curious, though: why is he so "loved"?
