Something about free-will and causality in there somewhere, isn't there?
It reminds me of that disembodied voice urging Slothrop to continue his
journey DOWNWARD, into the bowels of that ship, to fetch that package.

Is anyone really free? Ask not for whom the whip cracks, or the the boot
heels click.
