I understood brain storming as equal to tossing 
brown 29 at the wall. There is a Captian Kennedy 
mentioned in Ben Fraklin's Autobiography. I was not
suggesting that Pynchon was alluding to JR's tragic
plane crash. Jr did not crash in Long Island Sound,
but 
I think my describtion accurate. A very reasonable
quibble, but I grew up a lobster man in oyster bay and
we always said MV was off LI.  
Robert F. Kennedy Jr was embroiled in a
political/environmental battle over NY harbor with
shipping companies
back when P was writing M&D and since so much of NYC
current politics are included in M&D, why not 
JFK Jr?

Storm the prisons of the brain
flood the coventries with winter rain,
to you I  offer my hull
tossed on the storms
and caked with brown 29,
my tattered cordage heaved from the bottom of 
my brain's storming pleasure
where the measure of lines
where the measure of sea songs
know not longitude's logs tossed in a wager
on Captain Kennedy's ship
nor the American prometheus, 
but only these terrible channels where
the wind drives like an emergency vehicle
and Frank O'Hara lies with blue lips and a green face.

And who will trust the sanity of vessel?
