Sounds like Mason has fancied the sex scene. At page 425.3
First Mason smells Dixon's pipe smoke and next,
"In the after-hum he fancies he can hear Dixon's voice and then
another..."
So did Dixon have sex with Lady Lepton?
No, Mason fancies that he Dixon is having sex.
Is this a both/and situation?
On 426 the Prof says (once you've got a man holding up a tub for his
partner the jokes, puns too, just spill out),
"Say, I hope you Boys ain't had a falling-out?"
Sounds to me like the theme of these last couple-few chapters, breaking
up is hard to do, husband and wife fights. Who wears the pants in this
marriage, cheating, etc....
