>>>Since Pynchon brings politics into his own discussion
of the SL stories, I wonder if it's really beside the
point to discuss what he has to say on that topic in
the Intro. Apparently, TRP seems to think that
politics has something to do with his writing in this
era.<<<

Mr. Fergusberg did not say it was beside the point, nor did he suggest that
politics had nothing to do with the intro. He said he thought there was too
much focus on the political thread of Pynchon's web to the exclusion of
other threads. I was thinking the same thing this morning before he posted,
and have had that thought a lot over the years reading the p-list. Yes,
politics is there and is important, but TRP is an artist, not a political
journalist, and there is so much more going on in addition to the politics.
For example, take a look at the table of contents of almost any issue of
Pynchon Notes. The topics are much more varied, with politics being but one
of a host of topics. By the same token, Mr. Monroe is presenting more than
politics and will continue to do so over the next three weeks. The list does
tend to latch on to political threads rather tenaciously though.
