For all the effort I'll put into ferreting ot whatever
I can from the fiction, me, I take that "Introduction"
at more-or-less self-deprecating face value.  Which is
not to say that it's not worth discussing, or that I
won't keep annotating it here.  Or taht there aren't
things to be ferreted out.  Which reminds me ...
