Well I remember after reading V, for the first time thinking how much I liked
it, second only to GR. But when I last read it with the list, following the
GRGR, I noted how less "mature" it felt compared to GR. For me the characters
in GR are compelling (but V. feels more contrived, less "real," although I know
its not supposed to be "realistic")). A guess at one level the whole book (GR)
has its cartoonishness, but the stories and the characters kept me very much
interested, and I never felt they needed more fleshing out.

And I remain unconvinced about Vineland's greatness.
