Oh, you kid.  No, seriously, Petillon's essay suggests
an interesting, productive and, I think, convincing
way to read not only TCOL49, but perhaps that entire
Pynchonian oeuvre.  I've scattered scraps of that
essay Orhpeus-like all over the list, e.g., ...

The Kerouac bit's nigh unto an aside there, by the
way, although I think YPP mkes his case well enough. 
I'm guessing Pynchon has read his Carroll as well ...
