You've oversimplified it. There were regional
(Southern whites and Northern mid-westerners vs New
England and Rust Belt blues including minorities)
religious factors (Reagan Catholics), age factors
(Reagan appealed to the young conservatives) not to
mention global factors (organized labor jobs moved out
of the country). I doubt that Pynchon is talking about
Reagan Democrats If he is, his writing is worse than
I thought.
