Can we agree that said "words" are not commonly employed?

When Pynchon alludes to the "tower and tree" in COL49, am I 
taking liberties by tracing that metaphor back through Eliot all the 
way to Seneca and beyond? Lord knows,  tower and tree are  far 
more commonly used terms than the latin pollice - non?

You suspect  for one minute that I am gleaning much from my first 
reading of ADA? You give me far too much credit.........and I don't 
believe that such "hat-tipping" needs  to extend as far as Context. I 
have a hard time seeing this as coincidental, given that P.  not only 
employs it in a similar context (lower case  "c"), but then takes  
the thumbs DOWN of ADA and  reverses it. Superpollicate won't 
come up in an OED..........

and lest it  be misunderstood, my comment about our relative 
reading  "experience" was quite sincere.......and I very much 
appreciate your demand  for "rigor"........sorry I am so remiss in 
that  regard...
