David Morris sighs: " .... a major factor in the decline of this list."

this seems indeed to be a major factor in the mythology of this list: it was so
much nicer in the good old days.... in the late 1990s, when people like you and
i started to post stuff here, it was the same: no week passed without this 'i
wish back the old times when yx was still here and we had all those meaningful
discussions'-refrain. well, sometimes when i cannot avoid seeing my office at
the university, i spend hours with surfing the archives, and you know what?
it's never been much better or much worse than it is these days. in terms of
content-quality, that is. sure, our personal list-spring we can only have once,
yet the pynchon-list keeps rocking till the music is over.... and then it
hasn't been that bad recently: there are some new posters, and - all in all -
the mddm has been an acceptable group-read (better than the two before, imo).
this club, full of exciting ideas and cool people, is the only one i always
come back to. and it's good to have an international place for political
discussion (- if not we: who else could debate these things freely?). true,
orange october sun on the trees is making me mild, and since some things can
better be sung, here come frank & splank with a song written by coleman/leigh:

THE BEST IS YET TO COME

out of the tree of life, i just picked me a plumb
you came along and everything started to hum
still it's a real good bet, the best is yet to come

the best is yet to come and won't that be fine
you think you've seen the sun, but you ain't seen it shine

wait till the warm-up is underway
wait till our lips have met
wait till you see that sunshine day
                         you ain't seen nothin' yet

the best is yet to come and won't that be fine
the best is yet to come, come the day that you're mine

come the day that you're mine
i'm gonna teach you to fly
                         we've only tasted the wine
we're gonna drain that cup dry

wait till your charms are right for these arms to surround
you think you've flown before but you ain't left the ground

wait till you're locked in my embrace
wait till i hold you near
wait till you see that sunshine place
there ain't nothin' like it here

the best is yet to come, and won't that be fine
the best is yet to come, come the day that you're mine

greetings: kai

ps: although the danger of collective narcolepsy
cannot be debated away, i'm sure that this list will even
                      survive the slsl.
