One reason for posting a sign-up sheet is to determine
if at least a core group of people is willing to
participate in a group reading. I observe no shortage
of "votes" one way or another, but, as they say out
West, when it comes down to the nut-cuttin', it's all
about who's willing to host a session and help the
discussion along. So, if you "vote for" slow Learner,
I suggest you consider signing up to host a session,
otherwise there will be no organized discussion of
Slow Learner. (A set of session hosts doesn't
guarantee a lively discussion , of course -- if nobody
but that handful of people get involved, it's likely
to fizzle.)

Some folks have said they want to discuss Vineland --
if that's something more than a velleity, I suggest
that somebody (who's interested in that being the next
organized group reading) might at least put up a
sign-up sheet and see if anybody is actually
interested in putting a little time and energy into
making such a discussion happen.

As others have mentioned, "hosting a session" has
meant just about anything in past P-list group
readings, from benign neglect all the way to
elaborately prepared notes (see the list archives,
beginning in summer '97, for the well-structured and
well-prepared MDDM discussion of Mason & Dixon), lists
of questions, periodic postings during the hosting
period to stimulate discussion, etc. Since this is an
unmoderated discussion, anybody is free to post
anything at any time, so all participants are free
(and welcome) to post their own questions, notes,
background research materials, as the discussion
progresses.

Once you put up a sign-up sheet, the project takes a
step towards reality, and it becomes easy to judge
whether or not to move forward. Actions speak louder
than words, so to speak...
