Tankers, Niteclubs... connecting the targets

A French Supertanker, a Niteclub frequented mainly by
young Australians? I don't get it, what's the connection?

Isn't France the one U.N. Security Council vote that's
most problematic for the Bush/Powell plans? So why
would the terrorists, given all the other supertanker 
targets to choose from,  choose the French? It doesn't 
make sense. And why the Australians? What links them 
to the French, from the terrorist p.o.v?
