Tankers, Niteclubs... connecting the targets

I don't know about the supertanker, but the nightclub was full of non-muslim
tourists, most of whom were Austrailians because of the proximity of the two
countries.  I would guess also that a nightclub is a symbol of decadent western
influnce.
