The real mystery is why Winsome doesn't divorce her.

one of many mysteries, contradictions. We read that they live in NY and
the only grounds for adultery in NY is adultery. So why doesn't Roony
take her to court?
It is a strange. We learn that Mafia may have several reasons for
keeping Roony, like being married to him may help her sell her novels.
But Roony decides not to take her to court for her adultery. He decides
to get out of the marriage by committing adultery with Paola. Paola is
married and currently separated from her husband. Roony's
rationalization seems to be the point. How else can he explains his
mysterious attraction to the mysterious Paola? His true motives are
pretty much the same as Pig's.
Selfish and egocentric she projects a world and casts everyone as
characters in it.
She likes mirrors too.
