There you go, assuming authorial intent. You can't
possibly know what I _intend_, Keith, not any more
than I can know what Pynchon _intends_ to write, no
more than I can know your own _intentions_. I feel
relatively certain that you're no mind reader -- I've
seen no evidence that you possess that power -- all
you can do (all any of us can do) is project your own
obsessions into your reading/writing. That makes your
claims about "half-truths" half-baked, at best.

It demonstrated the lack of recent news stories that
related Rand and Pynchon, nothin more or less. I
posted it in the context of an onlist pissing contest
between some other P-listers who were going on and on
about Ayn Rand without making any effort whatsoever to
relate thta discussion to Pynchon -- a discussion
thread you yourself objected to.
In a later post to Barbara, Keith asks, with a snarl
(oops! There I go, assuming):
"Why would an *online
journalist*
do a search on a recent-news search engine and post it
to the list as
having
something to do with the reality or not of a TP-AyR
connection? Huh?
What
would be the point of that?"
Apart from being another in a long line of dastardly
tactics employed by us here in the rebel force that
intends to destroy civilization as you know it and
subject you all to the whims of a Godless
fascist/communistic (your choice) electronic brain,
FWIW, I thought the Subject Line "Pynchon + Rand = 0"
would be worth a chuckle in that particular thread,
and made it so, in a post that clearly attributed the
search to news.google.com, not www.google.com, apples
and oranges -- you could look it up; in addition to
that attribution in the original post, I made that
clear for a couple of people who didn't seem to know
the difference between news.google.com and
www.google.com. Following my post, coincidentally
perhaps, that Rand thread took a turn into Pynchon
relevance, although Malign and a couple of people
continued to flog it Pynchon-free for several days
more.

Unless you have access to my email box, you can't
possibly know this either. Making an assertion when
you have no way of ascertaining it's truth -- that's
not even half-truth, that's just misguided. In fact,
FWIW, you're wrong about my offlist correspondence.
I refrain from making known the names of the many
P-list friends I correspond with offlist so they won't
become the target of the kind of hate mail that
Terrance and Otto and Morris have recently begun to
post, attacking a few P-listers in the most appalling
way.

...and that's sad, isn't it. Five people (Terrance,
Morris, Malign, Mackin, and Otto) -- out of more than
300 subscribers (last time I checked that number with
the list owner, not very long ago) use this forum on a
daily basis primarily to insult me, to disseminate
pro-Bush and pro-war propaganda or marginalize Bush's
critics, to post news stories that have no direct
Pynchon relevance, to regurgitate vast tracts of other
authors' work often without attribution, and generally
with no attempt to tie it into the P-list discussion,
or uncover any Pynchon-relevance, to spew obscenities
(PLEASE NOTE: not each of the five does all of these
things every single day, of course -- that's obvious
from reading their posts -- but as a group, that's a
very large part of what they do on the P-list). And
each of these five screams bloody murder if anybody
else dares to do the same. What a pathetic
groupuscule of whiners.
This is my last post in this thread -- you and the
Gang of Five can continue with it as you like. I'll
repeat the offer I made to davemarc the other day:
let's keep Pynchon-L free of pro-Bush, pro-war
propaganda and spin, and I won't balance that out with
posts of reflecting the views of the millions and
millions of people who oppose war, Bush's war or
anybody else's.
