Barbara,

Try not to be too hard on Keith.  I suspect that
instead of kicking the cat he plugs in and kicks
Pynchon-L.  (I think more than a few of the frequent
participants do that and I don't exclude myself from
that number.)  Among other virtues, I know Keith to
have fine taste in music and literature -- that's been
obvious in his posts over the years, above and beyond
anything I might know about him from our offlist
correspondence.
