The interesting thing about the second passage is that DL recognised and
acknowledges to herself that her "obsession" with Frenesi (i.e. her "love",
her fetish") was exactly the same as Brock's:
[...] Sometimes, waiting in her room, she'd wonder if this was all
supposed to be some penance, to sit, caught inside the image of one
she'd loved, been betrayed by, just sit. . . . (141)
She'd been driven to the edge of insanity by it, and in her "love" (and I
think it's clearly sexual love, though perhaps unrequited, rather than
platonic or sisterly love) for and betrayal by Frenesi she's exactly like
Zoyd, and Weed, and Brock, and Prairie as well.
