I think it's a "The Grass is Greener" type situation - we're used to 
the Judeo-Christian beliefs with which we've grown up, and are 
looking for alternatives that have permeated less.

And then there's people like me, who will point out that the Bible is 
a Middle Eastern and not Western text.
