Middle Eastern in origin but very much Western as far as USE is
concerned. Christianity is the West's  first institution. Much of its
influence is still to be shaken off and there is much that can never be
shaken off.

Isn't it only to be expected that Christianity and its basic texts
should inspire fear and loathing in some of us, whereas other
mythologies inspire at worst indifference? Christianity is the parent
still holding a degree of dominion over us, demanding we love or hate
her/him.
