I think Terra Nostra and A Change of Skin are quite
good. But later Fuentes hasn't the same appeal for me.
I think on the whole w/r/t Latin American writers 
Vargas Llosa except for a few of his titles like Aunt
Julia has been consistently good--War at the End of
the World, Death in the Andes, Feast of the Goat. e.g.
