My favorite tactic on this one is stripping away the politics and
asking, "What do we hope to accomplish here?"
The answer seems to be to either a) provide water to Israel from
Iraq's rivers b) provide oil to the USA or c) provide distraction.
Knowing what I do about wars (to which Pynchon alludes), it seems to
me that there should be a vast public cry about matters not related
to the war itself.
And regardless, we know who will pay the price: the primarily
uneducated and impoverished Iraqi nation.
I am against the war.
