I think he's being purposely idiotic, or at least
challenging the usual sheep to wake up and
acknowledge that the introductiion is a mockery
of his critics. But it's very slick. If you can't see
the highly imaginative aspects of these early works-
which are all finely polished and perfected in V. and
GR- you will not appreciate that the intro is a hoot.

Pynchon is far from idiotic. If it's all in my imagination,
so be it. Call it an idiot's delight. My pleasure will be
none-the-worse for it.
