In many ways it seems Pynchon is against absolutism of symbol, and 
prefers that we understand things in their local rather than 
universal configurations, as universal logic in itself might be an 
illusion (projection).

I'll not screw around on this issue: I'm against the war. I don't 
care if Saddam's an asshole, or whether or not he threatens Israel. I 
think this is a "picked fight" as another listmember said and it's an 
impossibly unjust one that will result in many "common man" Iraqi 
dudes smiting the Mk82 rain. It's psychotic. And as always, there's 
the question of who profits...

In many ways, the nationalism (allegiance to extended family/tribe) 
we had before superpowerism (allegiance to one doctrine over another) 
provided for more meaningful, relevant and interesting wars.

Enough of that... it's Friday night. Into the void.
