This is an example of the problem one encouters when researching this
story...it has been "hijacked" by every variety of conspiracy promoter on
the net.........Having finished the DeCamp book in the wee hours of this
morning, I can assure you that he makes no claims regarding Luftwaffe
squadrons in the US....
Though he does engage in some speculations unrelated to the Franklin
matter, it is clear that he came to other controversies by virtue of his
work on Franklin, including his work on behalf of the Montana Militia.
I have secured the entire Washington TImes series on the Spence affair (not
an easy task, given the scarcity of WT archives in Mass. libraries), I have
also dug up whatever was reported on King in NYT and Wash Post - and it is
surprisingly scant - but a source in Iowa has forwarded series of articles
on the matter published back in 1991 by local Omaha media - OTHER than its
paper "of record", whose publisher was implicated.......among the facts
confirmed by the NYT is that King was indeed "managed" by a federal
psychiatrist subsequent to his "arrest" (King was originally taken off an
Omaha street by Secret Service the MORNING of a Bush appearance in Omaha -
it was believed that King was going to take the occasion to ask Bush to get
the investigation off his back) - these articles also make frequent
references to King with young males, but always include the disclaimer that
this was not to suggest that this was "indicative of sexual relationships
with same"....
but the bottom line is really the testimony of Owen, Bonacci and
Bonner..what is even more dismaying is the reaction of the FBI..It is worth
noting that this case preceeded that of Zip Connolly, the "rouge" FBI agent
recently convicted in Boston of abuse of office....In the course of that
investigation, it was found that the FBI had deliberately withheld
information which would have cleared three men unjustly convicted for the
murder of a local hood (google Salvati - I believe the victim was named
Deegan)..The excuse given was that the agency wanted to protect one of its
informants - the murderous Joey 'The Animal " Barboza...
watching the feds put on the fix is instructive -primarily becasue they are
really not that clever - its mostly done with pure thuggery.....
love,
cfa
