Loomings

I recall hearing somewhere that blurbs and liner notes and articles written by Pynchon typically surface just prior to the publication of a major work.  Is this true, those of you who have paid attention to the miscellania?  Might this foreward to 1984 signify the imminent publication of his much-anticipated Hilbert book (if that is indeed the subject)?
