correspondence with Playboy Japan

I still don't know why y'all are so keen to discredit
that Playboy Japan thing. The magazine's standing by
it, Pynchon and/or his people don't seem to be
disowning it whether or nor they are actively pursuing
said ownership claim, all most any of you have seen is
a rough translation at best ...

And keep in mind those Pynchonian idiosyncracies which
one might well suspect does not weather well
translation from English to Japanese and back again.
I still remember David Letterman having the lyrics to
"A Hard Day's Night" put through the wringer of five
languages and back again. Paul Schaffer ended up
singing "It is the Night of a Heavy Day," and that was
the recognizable part ...

In the meantime, I actually have a copy of the damn
thing, albeit in Japanese, albeit with my few
Japanese-redin' friends and/or acquaintances not quite
setting a translation on my behalf as a priority. But
is content what's at issue here, or authorship? Seems
to me the argument here often as not runs, well,
Pynchon just wouldn't have said whatever, or, at any
rate, we wouldn't want him to, therefore ...

Okay, in a coupla/three hours, I'll try to shake down
someone at Minitrue/Penguin Putnam for some answers
about that 1984 intro as well. More effort than I see
on the part of naysayers here, that's for sure ...
