Great news about the coming edition of _1984_.

As a conceptual artist Orwell is without parallel- a true
visionary. Most importantly, he is reliable. No effort to 
mislead, no pomo agenda, no smug liberalism, no easy 
way out of room 101.

Was it Trilling who commented "Prose like a window-
pane" ? But with Orwell, defenestration became an
inward process, and there was no replacement of glass 
with sugar, no friendly news-foax with mikes and cameras 
waiting for a scoop, all those phenomenon- which for 
better and for worse- had become part of the west by 
1984, perhaps because of Orwell's creation of Winston 
Smith and his alternative (so far) reality.
