Even on the level of ethnicities, syllables, sounds
(Tom Pynchon/Zoyd Wheeler, Richard Farina/Hector
Zuniga, sorry, don't know how to type that tilde, not
up to the ol' cut 'n' paste). The nitpicky on either
end here will raise objections of ideology and/or
biography, but, again, foax, excrutiatingly detailed
one-to-one correspondences are not quite of the
essence in such situations. More an initial
structuring principle, perhaps. Cf. other Pynchonian
straight man/dude duos, Mason & Dixon, Stencil &
Profane, Blicero & Slothrop, I don't know, m-maybe
even Oedipa & Pierce. By the way ...

... though I get the feeling that there's more of Tom
Pynchon projecting himself both a and as world in any
given instance. But, hey, I'll let that all play
itself out as it inevitably will here. Doug, David,
Paul, Robert? Et al.? Call me Cassandra ...

But before we're subjected to a desolate--not to
mention unnecessary--disquisition on anachronism here
... well, no, nothing I can do, sorry ...
