re VLVL2: More is Less

I don't think the political worldview reflected in
Vineland can be dismissed as easily as that.  Pynchon
didn't have to update it much, if at all, in the
foreword to _1984_ to make it relevant "circa 2003".
His critique of Nixon/Reagan/Bush -- and we're still
under Bush -- remains as accurate as it is
cartoonishly hilarious. The Tube is all that, and
more. The War that never ends still hasn't ended, and
the fat cats just get fatter from war profits. The
recovery movement is bigger than ever, cults
proliferate, Bible-thumping born-again Christians
occupy the White House... & etc. ...
