Bart: Say Leez, ever read that nineteen eighty-four? I have to write a
book report and ah

Lisa: What's your provisional hypothesis?

Bart: Um, that the Foreword is a fiction?

Lisa: You mean it's not real, right?

Bart: Yeah, like ... but real compared to what?

Lisa: Wrong question, Bart. You should RE-state that question.

Bart: You mean rephrase it?

Lisa: No, Bart. RE-construct it. Like, in Pynchon's M&D George
Washington is a character
and like he owns this slave and this slave is a comedian. The slave,
forgot his name, but he does this little Sammy number and ...

Bart: And does Pynchon, like, put that disclaimer, you know, like the
one that goes like,

all the characters in this book are fictitious, and any resemblance to
actual persons. living or dead, is purely coincidental

or something to that effect?

Lisa: Oh come on Bart, didn't you take postmodern fiction 101 aka
ontologically scandalous characterization and real compared to what?
