Pardon me, but there's only one person who has strenuously opposed s~Z's
suggestion that we read Pale Fire. No one has opposed anyone else's group
read. The last thing I feel is threatened.

help make the group read (whatever it is) as fulfilling a venture as possible.

Good. But nothing is stopping you from doing a Vineland group read. Curiously
Doug has not volunteered to join you.

with reading Nabokov. And since this IS a Pynchon forum, and it HAS been a long
time since a Vineland read was conducted here, and that novel IS so relevant to
today's events, I don't see why Vineland seems like such a horrible choice for
some of you.

If you had participated in the last one (as I did) you would know why it's a
bad idea, especially in the current political climate. At least with Pale Fire
nobody would be able to claim that Pynchon's take on "__(fill in the blank)__"
was "clear" and anyone who didn't see it was obviously a fascist (or "sounded
like" a fascist.
