From: David Morris >>No need to devote two weeks of discussion to
"Foreword."<<

Agreed, I have cut it to one week for each section which will keep us
hopping.

>>We shouldn't try to discuss the poem apart from "Commentary." This
would
be like reading "Introduction" apart from the stories. The two are
inseparable. I'd recommend everyone do a very quick read through the
poem for the general sense of it. It's actually a lot of fun, though
quite sad. If you don't understand a line, look in "Commentary" for a
possible clue. If you still don't understand it doesn't matter. You will
understand enough.<<

Your point is well taken but I would like to devote some time to comment
on the Foreward and each of the Cantos since many will be reading this
for the first time. And it allows some commentary about the elegance
and grace of the poem itself (lest we give that forceful literary effort
short shrift). The goal is to not only discuss the "puzzle" offered by
the book, but the influences on Pynchon (which will result in more
discussion than just a straight read through).

<<<How we might attack "Commentary" is something I'm still thinking
about.>>>

Of course, as you have said, we'll need to go back and forth between the
commentary and the poem (and also the Index).

>>But if you still want to do it with the schedule below, I've added my
name, and I'll add it again further down when we get closer to the
commentary.<<

Thank you for your selection. It's good to have you onboard.
