pynchon on orwell: german version in today's FAZ

Interestingly the most interesting part of the (to me) most interesting
sentence of the foreword: "altering the landscape and producing casualties
among friends and neighbours" (which is in the Guardian-version) is left out
in the German FAZ-version.

I take it as a hint that the FAZ-editors were aware that this part of the
sentence could (mis?)-lead readers to draw the same actual conclusions out
of Pynchon's text as I did.
