I spent a major portion of last summer collecting my Top 144 Best Books,
annotating them and re-reading. I'll be happy to share my full list for
anyone who wants it, but here are some suggestions:

Everything by Haruki Murakami, but remember to read A Wild Sheep Chase BEFORE
its sequel Dance, Dance, Dance (absent this advice I did the opposite)

Everything by Anthony Burgess

Everything by Junichiro Tanizake

Everything by Edith Wharton but try to read Ethan Frome and Summer back to
back for a fascinating contrast/comparison in tone

Everything by Salman Rushdie

Everything by Mark Helprin

Everything by Yukio Mishima

Confessions of a Taoist on Wall Street by David Payne

and of course, The Mobius Trip by Penelope Rugke
