The question was not "What books should I read?" the question was more 
general, and was asked with the intent of finding out what other books 
Pynchon fans were reading. The question was not asked so that I could read 
each and every book that was recommended, but maybe find a few books that 
interested me, and to find a few authors that I was unfamiliar with.  There 
are means besides trial and error to find out which books would, and would 
not interest me.  There are book reviews; although they're not the best means 
to find out about a book, they certainly tell you something.  There are 
endless sources on the internet, which would allow one to find out about a 
book; it just takes a tiny bit of effort to locate and use them.  And, if it 
came down to it, I can always pick the book up, read the back cover, flip 
through it, and make a decision.  Instead of criticizing the question, you 
should check out what other people are reading, maybe they'll have something 
that interests you.
