Ha-ha, they're the ones carrying their crosses around wearing their beanies
chanting Nyam-Ky- or Hare-Kitschna dotting their foreheads seeking nirvana
praying seven times a day, with axes to grind.

which may be a helluva way to mix a metaphor, but I wish they'd get onto to
something to do with Pynchon or his writings, like:

Tyrone Slothrop and the essay on Sloth--meaningful or just coincidence?
The book "Lineland" about the group itself colliding with a friend of TP's,
and the fallout--it's strange, moving, and insightful.
What about the tendency toward unintended consequences--should I call it a
law,
such as the end of Gravity's Rainbow when the Russians are busy snatching
their
Kraut rocket scientists, as we snatched ours, which started untold billions
of tax dollars toward space travel and ICBM's--
OR how the internet, Al Gore aside, started as a military mail system--the
most
liberating media invention in many years stemming from it's most paranoid,
but
well-funded institution, the military.
and what unintended consquences will come of the current conflict?

Friends and I discuss the last question and go inbetween the big powers
carving
up Iraq and it's oil, but more blatantly than by multi-nationals who guide
policy now,
to more terrorism, to resentment and envy by Western Europe, and then what,
to an expansion of technology and reason into medieval areas like the Middle
East.

Of course there's the world suicide wishers who think these are the end
times, and
I was raised that way, but reading Pynchon and lots more, and thinking
critically and compassionately about how survival is such a strong instinct
for humankind, I've left
any Messianic expectations far behind.
It's up to us, no pie (or god) in the sky, fellow rocketeers.

Samsa.
