Updike's failure, however, does not mean DeLillo didn't give a nod
to Jimi. Updike did notice this image, as witnessed from, not a cave
in Patmos, but from a sleek silver-toned stretch limo, which might be
right down your alley- on the drive over to Hell's Kitchen.

       He takes in details of city life (“A man in women’s clothing 
       walked seven elegant dogs”) and notices that on the limo’s 
       spycam his image makes a gesture a second or two before 
       he makes it in reality...
