Jimi Hendrix rewrote the book on electric guitar playing. Listen to the
Isley Brothers records from the early-mid sixties. You can hear that it's
Hendrix and he was already light years ahead of everyone else. Nobody in his
time even came close. Not Clapton, Beck, McGlaughlin, Duane Allman. He could
make his guitar sound like planets colliding (Wild Thing on Monterey Pop) or
hauntingly beautiful (Little Wing). I fail to see how he could possibly be
overrated.
