<<But defense contractors and others do make money
from
war ...>>

Certainly they do, as do roofers from tornadoes, but
that is not to say that roofers cause tornadoes or
privately relish the destruction done by them.

One doesn't care to sound hopelessly naive; of course
there's room for cynicism. And of course companies
like Halliburton and Bechtel stand to do business in
the war's wake.

But the assumption, without proof, in these myriad
posts is that there's clear and evident cause and
effect; that, e.g., the war in Iraq was declared on
behalf of Halliburton to the purpose of giving them
business and enabling their profit. That's a very
different charge and saying it over and over and over
doesn't make it so.

And the ceaseless stridency of tone, the purple
overstatement of the case, overwhelms the content, the
message capsized and sunk in the medium.
