And why do we rely just on the text to decipher meaning? Did Pynchon only
rely on text for his Foreword? Didn't he lend a lot of historical support
in telling us about Orwell?  I think context and history should matter
along with text. 
But, Terrance, really, a lot of it is there in the text too.  And you know
it's weighing on his mind. Living so close, a man with such obvious
political interest;  it has to be weighing on his mind.  It's weighing on
all of our minds isn't it?
