You wouldn't even need Doug or Otto or Paul N. or me
in order to argue that Pynchon isn't alluding to,
making reference to, whatever, the WTC attack et al. 
Point being, again, it's hardly a stretch to see that
as a possibility.  Here's how it began, but ...

course, is rarely the first one out of the trenches. 
But even without Doug--and I thought briefely about
simply asking him NOT to comment just so I could see
who else'd rush out of the woodwork first--I have no
doubt that Robert in particular would have rushed in
with a premptive strike on any reading of the
"Foreword" as aluding/referring/whatever to current
events.  We're pretty damn predictable here.  I always
intened to seal predictions and take bets, maybe start
up a pool or somesuch, but ...
