Interesting thing here is that DL goes from riding a Czech bike to
driving a Trans AM.
Like Pig Bodine in V., she likes machines. Why a Czech Bike? Why a Trans
AM? Recall that back on page 43 Zoyd goes to see Rick & Chick and Vato &
Blood are there. Why does Zoyd go to see them?
He goes to see RC & Moonpie because he has a side in crawfish with them.
He visits Hobbes because he does work for Hobbes and to get cash and a
disguise. But why does he visit Rick & Chick (runs into Vato & Blood)?
Is it the Jikov 32, that Skoda carburetor?
Can't be sure. But there it is. So why these Czech machines? Cheap
labor? Whne Zoyd shows up a the Log Jam he sees German and Japanese cars
in the parking lot. The men there try to give him money. At least that's
what he tells Prairie and even if he's making this up the implication is
that foreign money is funding the Vineland economy.
The Law of Diminishing Return & the Marshall Plan & Co.
What's going on? Vato & Blood steal cars. But they are very selective
thieves. They were in the motor-pool in Vietnam, doing business with the
"Communists."
Under Communism and pressure from the Soviet Union, Czechoslovakia
refused to
participate in the Marshall Plan. And so the story goes.
WORK!
What happens there happens here only it's twisted in the opposite
direction.
In the 1960's there was flowering there and in the US of much more than
children.
