<<<<There was "overlap" between the counterculture and
the student movement, particularly in 1964-8 where
they were more or less synonymous and the campuses
provided the central focus and venue *for* the
counterculture.>>
This is gibberish. There was overlap between the two
for four years when they were, more or less, the same
thing?
<<After '68, when SDS began to implode (and certainly
after the 1970 march on Washington following the
murders at Kent State) ...>>
Are you perchance using a lunar calendar? The March
on Washington was in November of 1969. The Kent State
shootings were in the spring of 1970. Maybe you’re
thinking of the March on Washington in 1963? Perhaps
you better check your “first hand reports” and get
back.
<<The Weather Underground and the Vietnam Vets
anti-war organisations, the feminist and
environmentalist lobbies and the Native American,
Chicano, environmentalist, and gay and lesbian lobby
groups ...>>
Are these part of, or the same as, or synonymous with,
or overlapping with the “counterculture”?
<<... were all still around and banging away
separately on their single issue platforms, but the
student movement (and with it all the major anti-war
and civil rights demonstrations that had characterised
the earlier phase) had fallen in a heap.>>
Was this heap-falling before or after the nationwide
student strike, in 1970? Perhaps both?
